Aromatic Indian whole-grain rice with a deep natural colour, earthy flavour and pleasantly firm texture.

SpiceBloom Organic Black Rice is an unpolished, long-grain rice with its dark bran layer intact. It has a slightly nutty, earthy flavour and develops a deep purple-black colour as it cooks.

Use it as a colourful base for rice bowls, curries, stir-fries, pilafs and grain salads. Its distinctive colour and firmer texture also work well in rice puddings and other sweet dishes.

Cooking note: Black rice generally requires more water and a longer cooking time than ordinary white rice. Cooking results may vary slightly depending on the pot, heat level and preferred texture.

Basic Cooking Guide

  1. Rinse the black rice thoroughly under cold running water.
  2. Add 1 cup of rice and 2–2½ cups of water to a saucepan.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 35–45 minutes.
  4. Remove from the heat and leave covered for 5 minutes.
  5. Fluff gently with a fork and serve.
For a firmer result, begin with 2 cups of water. Use additional water when you prefer softer grains or when your cooking method requires it.
